One Name, One Girl, One BIG Icon – Madonna

Revolutionary. Iconic. Controversial. Powerful.
These are only a few of the words that can describe Madonna, a woman who, in 20 years, has successfully released 11 albums (with a twelfth one in the works), participated in 8 tours, 7 of which were world tours, and drastically influenced society and pop culture. Scandal and controversy seem to be among her favorite things after kissing the pop princess Britney Spears on national television, featuring burning crosses in her “Like A Prayer” music video, and her not-so coffee table appropriate “coffee table” book entitled Sex, showcasing just that.
This has never hindered her in being named the best-selling female rock artist of the 20th century by the Recording Industry Association of America and the second top-selling female in the United States with 300 million album sales worldwide. From her first album, Madonna, that came out in 1983 to her most recent project, M.D.N.A., which will be released in March of this year, Madonna has proven over and over again that she can still do it, never failing to top herself, and everyone else, every time. By producing dance hits like, “Everybody” and “Music,” to girly classics like, “Material Girl,” all the way to button pushers like, “Rescue Me” and “Like A Virgin,” Madonna knows how to get the crowd going, one way or another.
M.D.N.A. will hopefully follow suite and so far it has, already getting a rise out of critics with its somewhat controversial name, which Madonna calls a “play on words” that simply means Madonna. Still, some are upset that it, coincidentally, also alludes to MDMA, the scientific name for the club drug ecstasy. Regardless of the name, it is sure to produce the same show stopping material we are used to from Madonna. The first single, “Give Me All Your Luvin,” featuring Nikki Minaj and M.I.A., will be released to radio stations on February 7th. Although it was leaked late last year, according to Billboard, “Within a few hours, it was among one of the top 10 trending topics worldwide on Twitter.” Like always, we can only expect the best from America’s Material Girl.
So get out your cone-shaped bras and fishnet gloves (I know you’ve been waiting for a chance to wear them again) and be sure to watch Madonna and whatever jaw dropping performance she is a part of during the 2012 Superbowl XLVI halftime show on February 5th. Also don’t forget to check back here for a review of her new album, M.D.N.A. when it is release in March.
Until then, check out out our current selection of Madonna MusicSkins and expect new skins to be released soon.
